Description
Presented by Moores School of Music, University of Houston
The University of Houston's Moores School of Music is proud to present Romantic Bookends: Schumann & Dohnányi, as a part of the 2024-2025 Faculty Artist Series.
This program curated by Moores School of Music’s Professor of Horn, Gavin Reed, highlights Romantic chamber music, with two works that bookend the period: Schumann’s rarely performed Andante and Variations for two piano, two cellos, and horn (1843); and Dohnanyi’s thrilling Sextet in C Major for piano, violin, viola, cello, clarinet and horn (1935). Though individual in style, both works feature vocal melodies and overt expression, hallmarks of Romanticism. The concert will feature Moores School faculty members Timothy Hester, Todd Van Kekerix, Mann-Wen Lo, Amber Archibald-Sešek, Eunghee Cho, Yevgeny Dokshansky, and Gavin Reed, as well as a star cello student.
Program:
Andante and Variations for two piano, two cellos, and horn, Op. 46 (1843)
Sextet in C Major for piano, violin, viola, cello, clarinet and horn, Op. 37 (1935)
